How many products bring in your Amazon revenue, and how many listings sell nothing?
The 80/20 rule says 20% of your products bring in 80% of your revenue. We looked at six months of 9 seller accounts to see how that plays out on Amazon, and at the listings of 14 seller accounts to see how many buyable listings did not sell a single unit in three months.
In the larger catalogs, 80% of revenue did not come from a fifth of the products, but from 29-44% of them. In one account, a single product brought 41.5% of six months of revenue. Leaving one outlier account out, 41% of buyable listings sold nothing in three months, and outside Germany 58% did.
How we measured
Revenue split. Amazon's order report, May 1 to October 31, 2026, on the euro marketplaces of 9 seller accounts (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Ireland, Belgium). That is 108 products and 155,784 euros of revenue. We left out the UK (1,917 pounds) and the US (3,401 dollars and 30 euros) so as not to mix currencies. A product here is one ASIN, with its revenue from all euro marketplaces added up. Cancelled orders are not in the report.
Listings with no sales. The daily status (buyable or not) of the listings of 14 seller accounts, August 6 to October 31, 2026: 87 days. A listing here is one product on one marketplace. We counted the listings that were buyable for at least 30 days and checked how many units they sold in the same period. At least half of the listings with no sales were buyable on all 87 days.
How many products make 80% of revenue
| Account | Products with sales | Share of the top product | Products that make 80% of revenue |
|---|---|---|---|
| Molly Cat | 28 | 41.5% | 8 |
| Going Forward | 34 | 13.2% | 15 |
| Beton Booster | 23 | 18.2% | 9 |
| The Coolest shop | 6 | 37.9% | 3 |
| Quadrofixing | 6 | 40.2% | 3 |
| Premiumwelt | 4 | 64.4% | 2 |
| Dental Rituals EU | 4 | 40.5% | 3 |
| Bohema Games | 2 | 95.9% | 1 |
| Felinetiq | 1 | 100% | 1 |
In the three accounts with the most products, 80% of revenue came from 29% of products (Molly Cat, 8 of 28), 44% (Going Forward, 15 of 34) and 39% (Beton Booster, 9 of 23). In the same accounts, part of the catalog barely counted: 14 of Molly Cat's 28 products, 10 of Going Forward's 34 and 8 of Beton Booster's 23 each brought less than 1% of revenue.
One product, half the revenue
Molly Cat's outdoor cat house was the account's top product in all six months. In October it brought 52.3% of the account's euro revenue, in July 19.5%. In October, half of this account's revenue rested on this one product.
In the other two larger accounts the top product changed:
- Going Forward: in May and June the raspberry leaf and marshmallow tea was first, from July to October the lemon balm and marshmallow tea, with 11.9-20.5% of the month's revenue.
- Beton Booster: in four of six months the 12 mm concrete fiber was first, in July and September two different listings of the 40 mm macro fiber, with 15.3-31.3% of the month's revenue.
41% of buyable listings sold nothing
612 listings were buyable for at least 30 days, and 475 of them did not sell a single unit. Most of these came from one account: 381 of Quadrofixing's 383 listings sold nothing. The account has 49 products on 8 marketplaces, and 2 of its listings sold in these three months. So that it does not distort the picture, it is left out of the numbers below.
Of the other 13 accounts' 229 listings, 94 sold nothing (41.0%):
| Units sold, 87 days | Listings |
|---|---|
| 0 | 94 |
| 1-2 | 35 |
| 3-9 | 49 |
| 10-29 | 31 |
| 30 or more | 20 |
The 20 listings that sold 30 units or more (8.7% of the 229) brought 1,577 of the 2,485 units sold (63.5%).
Outside Germany, most listings did not sell
| Marketplace | Buyable listings | Sold nothing |
|---|---|---|
| Germany | 110 | 25 (22.7%) |
| All other marketplaces | 119 | 69 (58.0%) |
The other marketplaces: France 11 of 26, Spain 20 of 26, Italy 18 of 26, Ireland 16 of 24, United Kingdom 4 of 11, United States 0 of 6.
The same product can sell in Germany and not on the other marketplaces:
- Beton Booster: 10 of 26 German listings sold nothing, 20 of 26 Spanish and 18 of 26 Italian.
- Going Forward: all 25 German listings sold, 16 of 24 Irish listings did not.
Opening a listing on a new marketplace is not a sale yet. The listing is buyable there, but it did not bring a buyer.
Products with no sales and FBA stock
If nobody bought a product on any marketplace and FBA stock sits on it, that also shows up in the storage fee. 24 of the 13 accounts' 125 products were not bought on any marketplace in the 87 days. On November 6, 6 of them had FBA stock, 120 units in total: three baking mixes in the UK (48, 24 and 12 units) and three feeding bowls in Germany (12 units each).
What this data does not tell you
Why a listing did not sell. "Buyable" only means that an order can be placed on the listing. It does not measure whether the product shows up in search, whether its price is competitive, or whether ads run on it. The accounts we measured are small and mid-sized sellers. With a large catalog the split may look different.
What to do with it
- Work out your own 80%. Seller Central, Reports, Business Reports, the Child Item view, six months: sort by sales and see at which product you reach 80% of revenue.
- If one product brings half your revenue, protect that one first. Watch its stock, its listing status and your account health most closely. If it drops out, see how long a listing takes to come back after it stops being buyable.
- Check again every month. At Beton Booster, three different listings were first in six months.
- List the listings with no sales in 90 days, per marketplace. Decide on each one: fix it (price, images, A+ content, ads) or close it.
- If FBA stock sits on a product with no sales, see what it costs. The monthly storage fee per product: which product pays your storage fee.
- On a new marketplace, measure instead of assuming. In our data, 58% of listings outside Germany sold nothing in three months.
